Larry Michael - District IV Mgr. / Tournament Director and Tim Laverty - Referee & Scorekeeper. We had 18 players representing 8 States: 11 from NC, 1 each from FL, MD, OH, SC, TN, VA, & WV.

Larry welcomed all players and visitors at the opening of the tournament business meeting. Larry gave invocation, and we remembered our recently deceased players: both, Bill McClintock who passed away October 6 and Jimmy Atkins died August 13th of last year. Tournament rules were covered and players were instructed on playing time limits and other conditions.

JR Smith announced the up coming Alabama / D5 in Haleyville, AL Nov 8-9th and the 11-Man WTM between Laverty & Moiseyev Nov 8-11th in Burlington, NC. He also mention to mark your calendar for the 2014 Tennessee Open "Leonard Hickman Memorial" which is expected to have a $5-6 K cash prize. This is a must attend Checker Tournament in Lebanon, TN on March 7-9th, 2014.

We offer a special thank you to Larry for his continued arrangements to hold our D4 at their fellowship hall. We passed the hat to supplement his efforts in sponsoring this tournament. He also negotiated special rates at Lexington Triad Inn. | This makes the fifteenth year Larry has served as our ACF District 4 Manager.

We played a single division tournament using Swiss pairing & the 156 deck, with only last round repairing if necessary. 2 hour rounds, allowing 1 hour per game. Only a 5 minute time allowance for over time rounds with a 1 minute per move for 5 moves, then Referee will judge any unfinished games as a draw or win to stay on schedule. | Bye awarded as 3 points to lowest game point player.

Big Delicious Buffet Dinner (BBQ was from Bar-B-Q Center on N. Main St. Lexington) in Fellowship Hall at 6PM Friday! We thank Larry & Judy for the preparation and serving of our tournament dinners, refreshments, and finger-foods throughout the tournament. Also a big thank you! to Mrs. Frances McClintock for her preparation of all the foods that supplemented our lunch and dinner, as various dishes, cakes, breads, sandwiches, desserts, etc. We also thank Carolyn Minor for bringing her chocolate cake.

Mike Ross brought his honey for sale, a bag of his organically grown muscadines & scuppernongs for the players to enjoy their ripe smell and sweet full flavor.

T separates player's opponent from player's accumulated game points (win=2, draw=1, loss=0, bye=3). GM stands for Grand Master, CM stands for Candidate Master, IM stands for International Master which are earned titles given to distinguish a player's status by WCDF. Larry made the decision before the last round started to get rid of the bye by award Moiseyev the bye round since he was 5 points ahead of runner-up Laverty, which guaranteed him 1st place no matter what his last round results, and to evenly pair the rest of the field for their final round. A bye or withdrawal doesn't effect ratings.

Howard Gains was the furthers away distant traveling player by 635 miles & 10 hrs. one-way. | Raleigh Johnson 89 years old on July 12 was recognized as the oldest player. |   Lots of wives and visitors attended: Jody & Stephanie Woolum, son and daughter-in-law of Charles Woolum, Loki Francis next door neighbor of Raleigh Johnson who drove him to the tournament, Betty Gain, and their daughter who drove for Howard & Betty to the tournament, Paralee Shultz, Carolyn Minor, Barbara Smith, Judy Michael, Francis McClintock, Beverly Shelly, Morris Auman's daughter Caitlyn who also drove for Morris Auman, and Bob & Brenda Parks from Old Fort, NC visited us Saturday.

Larry Michael had a stack of the recently published ACF promotional brochures on the table available to players to take a few and pass out to get the word out about our great game of “Checkers”

Ray & Beverly Shelly had many good 2012 Lebanon National pictures which she gave to the players. Also Beverly had a nice display of Ray's checker books he uses in teaching available for sale along with ACF patches, ACF baseball caps, ACF checker insignia green sports trainers' jackets and tournament checker tote bags, other items, etc.

The Total Cash Prize: $1,902 = Entry Fees $450 ($25x18) + contributions & donations.

Many players enjoyed meals and fellowship at Randy's, Lexington Barbeque, Speedy's BBQ, Ocean View Seafood, Country Cookin, Portabello's, Christo's, etc.

This was a fun tournament, weather drizzly Friday, but clearing by afternoon and foggy Saturday morning, two cool Indian summer days. Delicious Dinner & Lunch; a delightful tournament & fellowship for all who attended!

Bob & Brenda Parks, Ray & Beverly Shelly, and JR Smith attended Worship Service at Gethsemane, Ray was their guest singer, Pastor Michael delivered an inspiring message about confidence in God's strength and assurance.
